PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona Suns hosted a check presentation at the BreastCare Center at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott Valley Monday morning to present a check for proceeds the club helped raise in auctioning off pink jerseys the players wore for their game on March 3 against the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

YRMC received a check for $5,378.44 from NAZ Suns President Chris Presson at the 8 a.m. event. The money represented all proceeds the Suns helped raise during their Breast Cancer Awareness Night.

“A big thank you to our fans and supporters for helping us make this night the success it was,” said Chris Presson, president of the Northern Arizona Suns. “Many lives are affected by breast cancer every year and through our partnership with YRMC we were honored to help bring awareness to such a significant cause in Yavapai County. The generosity during our first annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night was inspiring. Our focus goes beyond the basketball court and into the lives of our community members. We look forward to making this an annual event.”

Also joining the Suns at the event was head coach Ty Ellis. “Anytime we have an opportunity to give back, we are excited. Unfortunately, everybody is affected or has been affected by this horrible disease. We can all relate and show empathy to one another. I’m very proud to be a part of an organization that cares and wants to connect to the families that have been affected.”

The Suns and YRMC partnered during their first inaugural season in 2016-17, and they will continue to be partners for years to come. Goals for both sides include continuing to build awareness for breast cancer and early diagnosis.

Coaches, volunteers, employees and fans wore pink ribbons in support of the cause on the Suns’ Breast Cancer Awareness Night, with players sporting pink jerseys for the game, which included the BreastCare Center logo on the front. Following the game, each NAZ player’s jersey was auctioned off to help raise the money.

“We deeply appreciate our partnership with the Northern Arizona Suns,” said Robbie Nicol, executive director of the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Foundation. “Their support through the March 3 ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Night’ will benefit many people throughout our region who need screening, diagnostics and treatment for breast cancer. The enthusiasm and generosity of the NAZ Sun fans made this special evening a ‘slam dunk’ for the YRMC BreastCare Center and our community. Thank you all!”

Accepting the check was Ken Boush, director of marketing and communications at YRMC, John Goodenow, director of philanthropy at YRMC, and Dave Barrett, vice chair of the YRMC Foundation.
